    It’s not so long ao that Manly was a pub town. Well, Hemingway’s is one of the fine joints leading the small bar revolution in this beach side-suburb with fun cocktails and party food. You can grab yourself a longneck of Coopers and if your feeling extra macho snack on house made pork scratchings and chip butties with pickled oinions. For the more ladylike there’s plenty on offer too: sip on Hemingway’s Cup – a dainty wee beverage served in a tea cup that combines Hendrick’s Gin with rose and apple tea, cucumber and a delicately spiced sugar syrup. Open for lunch and dinner get yourself on a ferry this summer to check out this quaint Manly joint.

    This hidden subterranean bar is entered through a tailoring shop façade, but once down the stairs you’re in no danger joining a knitting circle. An eclectic mix of CDB drinkers gather here religiously on any night of the week to drink expertly crafted classic and progressive cocktails and chow down on gourmet burgers and hotdogs. The tunes are tend toward retro funk and rock classics – think Curtis Mayfield and Jimi Hendrix – creating a vibe of sophisticated cool.   5. Cocktail: East 8 Hold Up

    The East 8 Hold Up

    40ml Ketel One Vodka
    20ml pineapple juice
    15ml Aperol (an Italian bitter-sweet orange and rhubarb liqueur)
    15ml sugar
    15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
    5ml passionfruit syrup

    Add all ingredients to a shaker. Add ice and shake ‘as though seven demons were goading you to it’. Strain into and ice filled Old Fashioned (rocks) glass and garnish with pineapple and a lime
